Infrared quantification of binary rubber blends with overlapping bands

Quantification of elastomer content for the ethylene-propylene diene monomer/polybutadiene blend are seldom subjects in literature, mainly due to rubber compatibility problems. However, suitable contents can lead desirable properties. Infrared spectroscopy quantify this type even if some bands overlap, which be resolved with proper choice spectrum obtaining mode and non-overlapping analytical bands. This study evaluates quantification by transmission, reflection transflectance infrared. Even though all methodologies showed satisfactory results, transmission provided better accuracy. The methodology is simple suited industry. sample higher BR best result. band at 743 cm-1 weak results weaker absorptions when measuring samples low content. On other hand, developed an accurate determination EPDM contents. For infrared researchers, these not only encourage using different spectra modes application, including less conventional ones such as near region quantitative determination, it also contributes a wide discussion errors methodologies, discussed publications.
